This one goes out to anyone who has ever been given a conversation heart and worked through the possible grief or disappointment or maniacal excitement that must have come from your actions :-).
I am my 3rd grader's Class Rep (I think in the olden days I would be considered the Class Mom, don't you love how politically correct Class Rep sounds?). I've been putting together a Valentine's Day party including two activities using conversation hearts. One of my kind contributors (for the party) indicated this morning to me that she went to the store, saw how suggestive the hearts are "now-a-days" and walked out, empty-handed. She is hoping to check out another manufacturer and get back to me. She is a conscientious lady and I really appreciate her honesty. I do.
I was left speech-less. I mean, really?
So, I mentioned this conversation to my sister and she wondered if I felt any bitterness or had scars over "unfound love" from my third grade Valentine's Day party. Sheesh, I am lucky to have made it this far right? All of those promising messages . .. unfulfilled......sigh.
We started sharing Valentine's from our past and I ended up laughing so hard I couldn't even talk - so, that is a good feeling. I'll let you know if my son's party has any "conversation".

one year for valentine's day, cereal box carefully decorated, as if that will bring on more valentine's, I received an envelope. NO NAME!! Oh, the excitement! Inside the envelope, addressed to me, was a few conversation hearts. All of which were carefully selected to show feelings for me. At recess, my two close friends and I took off to the far end of the football field (grass across from our house) and examined each and every heart. Analyzing the why's and how's of this secret admirer. So so thrilling!
ReplyDeleteStill going to therapy from this experience. My whole sense of self has been twisted and turned. Help me! BAN CONVERSATION HEARTS! AGH!
Oh Melissa - you are funny. Your comment made me laugh when I read it and again when I thought of it. Wonder who the mysterious heart-donor was...
